Adeline “Betty” Johnson, age 88 of Cascade went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred R. Johnson; sons, David L. Johnson, Paul A. Johnson; brothers, Hank Scheltema, Bill Scheltema; sister-in-law, Bea Scheltema; brother-in-law, Abram “Bud” Huyser Jr.; and toddler sister, Chrissy Scheltema. Betty is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Becky” (Mark) Bloomstrom-Venema, Timothy F. (Julie) Johnson, Steven W. (Leisha) Johnson, Andrew L. (Karen) Johnson, Matthew H. Johnson; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Chester (Marjorie) Scheltema; sister, Corrine “Cookie” (Bud) Huyser; sister-in-law, Ruth (Hank) Scheltema; many nieces and nephews; as well as her dog Rascal. Betty graduated from Caledonia High School and attended Grand Rapids Bible College. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Betty was a member of the church choir, Eastmont Trio, and Ladies Missionary Group. She enjoyed sewing, singing, and reading. Visitation will take place Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 3900 Fulton St. E, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 from 12:00pm to 1:00 pm. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00pm. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory. Services will be live streamed at http://www.FHBCGR.org “Resources” tab. Rev. Jeff Burr officiating. A private family graveside service will immediately follow. Interment Cascade Cemetery.
