ROTH – Alfred E. Roth aged 90 of Lowell passed away February 15 2008. He was preceded in death by his brothers Fred and Rudolph Roth and a sister June Houser. He is survived by his wife Joan and was happily married for almost 60 years; children David (Anita) Roth Linda (John) Affholter Gary (Suzanne) Roth; brothers Edwin (Doris) Roth Walter (Kapua) Roth of Okemos MI; three sisters-in-law June Roth Irene Rypstra Helen Rypstra; six grandchildren Patrick and Collin Roth Michelle and Carolyn Affholter Alison and Nicholas Roth; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Roth proudly served his country in WWII from 1942 to 1946 as a Air Corp sergeant in the Army. H e was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #8303 and American Legion #152 and First United Methodist Church of Lowell. He was the Surge Dairy farm equipment dealer in Kent County for 33 years retiring in 1981. Alfred loved to work with his hands. He was a highly skilled carpenter and electrician both in his business and around the home. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. Golf became his second love after retirement enjoying the outings with the Lowell Senior Golf Group. He was very proud of his family and took great pride in his grandchildren’s accomplishments. Funeral services for Mr. Roth will be February 19th at First United Methodist Church of Lowell 621 E. Main St., with Dr. Michael Conklin officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roth-Gerst Funeral home 305 N. Hudson St., Lowell. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Lowell.
