Alice Marie Ziegler, age 83 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023. The daughter of Jerome and Pauline (Bohr) Jost, she was born on July 16, 1939, in Belmont, Michigan. Alice is survived by her husband of 63 years, Darrell Ziegler; children, Diane (Dan) Rinaldi, Mark (Kim) Ziegler, Kathy (Steve) Roth, Greg Ziegler, Christine (Don Cramer) Ziegler; grandchildren, Malik, Malachi, Ashayla, Tyler (Kayla), Bailey (Rob), Emmerika, Noah, Nick (Megan), Amanda, Ryan, Morgan, Madeline, Zachary (Anna), Isaac, and Carissa; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Byrne, Ruth Ann (David) Kommer; brother-in-law, Norman Ziegler; and many nieces and nephews. Alice had a passion for singing and served in the St. Robert’s Catholic Church Choir. She also served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister, delivering communion to homebound parishioners and a CCD teacher. Alice was active in many groups that met for decades: The “Golden R” class of ’57 of Rockford High School, Mother’s Club in Cascade, Serendipity Club, Forest Hills bus driver friends, Florida RV friends and Alaska travel group, golf friends (she loved to golf!) and lunch with her sisters every month. Her creative and industrious nature showed in her hobbies: gardening, sewing, needlepoint, ceramics, country painting, and quilting, her home and loved ones proudly exhibit her prolific work. She loved her grandchildren and participated actively in their lives, attending birthday gatherings, graduations, performances, athletic events, faith milestones, and just spending time one on one or with the whole bunch. Everyone in her circle received birthday cards written and stamped well in advance of the event! Every grandchild received a hand-sewn robe, a hooded beach towel and a quilt. Each child was cherished and each child knew her well. They all loved going to Grandma and Grandpa’s. She made everyone who knew her feel special. As she wished, and thanks to a wonderful Hospice team, she passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. We know she is in Heaven with her Lord Jesus and that is cause for great joy in the midst of great sadness. She will be greatly, greatly missed! Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, April 24, 2023, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, with a Rosary at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am, with visitation from 10 to 11 am, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at St. Robert’s of Newminster Parish, 6477 Ada Dr SE, Ada, MI 49301. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be directed to San Juan Diego Academy, 1650 Godfrey Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI 49509, in Alice’s memory.

We’re so sorry for your loss. Kristi and I were very fond of Aunt Alice. We always enjoyed your company and seeing you two at mass at St. Robert’s. We will miss her very much!
