Ada resident Barbara Jean (McLoud) Coger, 100, died peacefully in her sleep on the evening of Sunday, September 18, 2022. Ms. Coger’s great-niece, Julie Stack (John) was with her during the weekend.
Ms. Coger was born on January 26, 1922, in Ada, Michigan, to Byron McLoud and Christine Braam McLoud.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Clare Coger; her sisters, Muriel Boynton and Virginia Tuohy; and her niece, Jean (Boynton) Welmerink.
Barb had a passion for traveling and entertaining and loved laughing and telling stories. Barb and Clare had adventurous spirits and traveled around the world as part of a travel group. Barb enjoyed talking about their trips together and about the experiences of the multiple generations of her family that lived in Ada. Barb was very attuned to nature and loved feeding the hummingbirds that frequented her yard, walking in the woods, and gardening. She also enjoyed creative things and made many special decorations when she hosted holiday gatherings.
Barb is survived by her grandniece, Julie; and Clare’s grandchildren and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A private graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Jill Forton at Cascade Cemetery with the burial to follow.
