Carl Edward Hainer

Carl Edward Hainer, age 93 of Grand Rapids Township, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Hainer; parents, John and Edna Hainer; and 4 siblings. He is survived by his children, Candace Strong, Douglas Hainer, Suzanne Hainer, Joel Hainer; grandchildren, Ashley Strong, Allison and Melody Hainer, Rose Schaefer, Danielle Hainer, Julianne (Nezar) Alattar, and Ryan Hainer. Carl was a Communications Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. Carl then attended Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana and received a BSEE in 1957.  In June 1958 Carl began his career at Lear Siegler, Inc. in Grand Rapids, Michigan and held varying engineering positions there until his retirement in 1990.  His hobbies included Amateur Radio, playing his steel guitars, and various projects around his home and yard.  Carl also held church council positions at churches he had attended throughout his lifetime. Funeral Service will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Pastor Jeff Burr of Forest Hills Baptist Church officiating. The family will meet friends and relatives one-hour prior to the service in the funeral home chapel. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Military honors will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard.
