Chuck Spliedt, age 65 of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 22, 2017. With tremendous faith he tirelessly served the Diocese of Grand Rapids as a priest for 10 years. His fondest accomplishments included helping 200+ couples return to the Catholic faith by resolving their annulments and allowing them to be remarried in the Catholic Church. Retiring from the priesthood in 1988, he then ventured on to married life with Cindy on February 25, 1989. Seven children and six grandchildren later he was a very proud dad and grandpa. His work at Network 180 enhanced his drive to advocate for all special needs victims. Born with a congenital disability, he was especially sensitive to victims of physical challenges. Chuck was a member of the Grand Rapids Running Club and Rapid Wheelmen Biking Clubs for many years encouraging activity regardless of physical ailments. Subsequent work for CARF as an accrediting agent brought him into contact with diverse groups. His desire was always to secure a 3 year accreditation providing cost containment for the agencies served. As an active member of St. Robert Parish, he served as lector, Eucharist Minister, Choir member, and greeter. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Lucille Spliedt; and parents-in-law Raymond and Rita Tava. He is survived by his wife Cindy; children Anthony Spliedt, Kristina (Ben) Mann; Justin Spliedt, Roberta Spliedt, Angel (Brad) Maat, Jennifer (Josh) Centala, Sean Spliedt; grandchildren Tony Jr., Devon, Melissa, Elizabeth, MaKenna, Michael; brother, Tom (Corinne); sisters Ann (Jerry) Kubiak, Lori (Dean) Irving; brothers and sisters-in-law Barb (Ken) Grzeszak, Marie (Ed) Richards, Sue (Pete) Lytwyn, Diane Tava; also multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday 6-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. with scripture service at 6:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at St. Robert of Newminster Parish, 6477 Ada Dr., Ada. Rev. Leonard Sudlik, Rev. Phil Shangraw, and Rev. Thomas Page concelebrants.
