David C. Baer, age 91 of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia; children, Paula Benjamin of Ada, Sheila (Keith) Thayer of LA, John (Susan) Baer of GA, William (Lynda) Baer of VA, Thomas (Dana) Baer of PA; brother Donald (Pat) Baer of WA; sisters, Jean Hallock of FL, Jane (George) Hadlow of NY; sisters-in-law, Pat Baer and Laura (Edward) Scarpelli; brothers-in-law, R. Dennis Kelly and Robert Rhodes; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Baer, son-in-law, David Benjamin; sisters-in-law, Peggy Kelly and Barbara Rhodes. He was a graduate of both Rochester Institute of Technology and Clarkson University. David was an Army Veteran of World War II, worked for 40 years for Taylor Instruments as a mechanical engineer. David loved camping, traveling and being a volunteer especially with the Scouts. He was always there to lend a hand to help others. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
