David D. MacDonald (86) of East Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on April 10, 2020 at Porter Hills Village. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Christine MacDonald; siblings, Jeanne Smith, Bob, Ted, Patricia (RSM), Jack and Paul MacDonald. Dave is survived by his wife, Virginia (Delaney) MacDonald; his sons, Mark and James (Kit Yoon) and daughter Teresa Mathison (Nickolai); grandchildren, Claire and Miller MacDonald and Anders Mathison; siblings William (Carol) and Linda (Bob). Dave grew up in a large family with eight siblings in Rochester, New York. He would want to be remembered for his service to his country, as a member of the Air Force stationed overseas in the Korean War, and to his community, as a member and president of the EGR School Board in the 80’s. Due to the current circumstances associated with COVID19, the family will be having a Celebration of Life in the summer or fall of 2020. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation (2915 Hall St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506, or online at www.egrsf.org).

  1. Dave and I had many converstions at the library over the years. We talked about many things; one conversation I clearly remember with delight was about the Masters. I missed his conversations when he was no longer able to visit us. Wishing you all peace and comfort in a sad time.

  2. Hello , my name is Mark MacDonald . Dave’s oldest son . I am not sure what I am doing here . I work third shift right now . Just got off work . I miss my Dad this morning . Maybe with the virus running about , it seems like I or we never got to say good bye . Like he is still out there somewhere listening to these strange instrumental songs from the forties and fifties . He had a story for every song . Growing up , it seemed like my Dad was indestructible . I suppose we all feel that way . I was stuck in hotel rooms in New Mexico and Chicago for moths during the corona lock down and I never feel like I got to say good bye or something . Oh well , I know he is walking the fairway with a five iron this morning .
    Vaya con dios , Dad
    you are missed .
    I love ya,
    Mark
