Donna Marie Muench (nee Valkier) died on May 1, 2021 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Corneal Jacob and Martha (nee Pentinga) Valkier and by her siblings Robert, Raymond, Eugene and Gordon Valkier, and Maxine Cornelisse. She is survived by her husband of 68 years John Phillip (Jack) Muench, by her five children, Mary Jo Baisch (Edward), Laurie J. Muench (Julian Wesley), John P. Muench (Elizabeth Drumm), Margaret Learner, and Jeanne A. Wood (Charles), by her sisters Joan Smits, Kae Mead, and Nancy (Earle) Nawrocki, and by fourteen loving grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Donna strongly believed in education; she worked at Aquinas College for many years and received a Bachelor’s Degree in English from that institution at the age of 62. She loved golfing, oil painting, talking with her many friends, and spending time with family on the beach. Her gentleness, resilience and lively sense of humor will be greatly missed. A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 1935 Plymouth S.E., Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM with Mass at 11:00 AM. She will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery following the Mass. So sorry to hear of Mrs. Muenchs passing. Thoughts and prayers for all of the family. Spent alot of time as a kid with Laurie and Mary Jo going between each other’s houses. Always had a great fireworks show in front of their home for the whole neighborhood.
