GIGLIO – Sister Dorothy Giglio OP (formerly Sr. Mary Cabrini Giglio) of Grand Rapids Michigan (born in Pontiac) died October 25 2008. She was 85 years old and served as a Grand Rapids Dominican Sister for 62 years. Sr. Dorothy began her teaching ministry at St. Alphonsus Grand Rapids with first grade. For 40 years Sister Dorothy was an early elementary teacher. She served at St. Anne Alpena; St. Basil South Haven; St. John Essexville; St. Francis Ranchos de Taos New Mexico; San Ignacio Albuquerque; St. Gregory Hart; SS Peter and Paul Saginaw; St. Josaphat Saginaw; St. Peter Douglas; St. Boniface Bay City; Sacred Heart Mt. Pleasant; St. Joseph Pewamo; St. Joseph Beal City; and St. Charles Greenville. Sister Dorothy is survived by her sisters Angela Giglio and Arlene Giglio of Greenville Mary Giglio of Traverse City; her brother Frank Giglio of Greenville; and her sister-in-law Elaine Ryan Giglio of Comstock Park; many nieces nephews many friends and Sisters in our Dominican Community. Sister Dorothy will repose at Dominican Chapel/Marywood 2025 East Fulton Street. Visitation will be held on October 27 from 2:00 to 8:30 p.m. with a Remembering Service at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on October 28 2008 at Dominican Chapel/Marywood. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in Sister Dorothy’s name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters Health Care Fund.
