Duane Charles MacDonald passed away on December 31, 2022, at the tender age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcia (Bailey) MacDonald; his sons, Dan (Teri) MacDonald of Reed City, MI, Michael (Lisa) MacDonald of Reed City and Mark (Sandy) MacDonald of Lowell; seven grandchildren and some GREAT-grandchildren. Duane (nicknames: “Dee” & “Mac”) was born on August 9, 1935, in Otsego, Michigan. He grew up in Grand Rapids graduating from Kelloggsville High School. He joined the Army and served in postwar Germany. After returning home, he joined the boom to manufacture automobiles, becoming a Tool & Die Specialist for General Motors. He met Marcia and began to grow a family in Kentwood, before moving to Lowell. Mac loved being outdoors and traveling. He and Marcia journeyed to Alaska and all four corners of the United States, spending many winters in their motorhome, visiting friends in Lakeland, Florida. In recent years, his decline was accelerated by an accident & brain injury. In his younger years he had been an avid golfer, enjoyed meeting with friends and family for hunting, fishing, and celebrating sports of all manner (including horseshoes). Mac loved analyzing games and was a true Michigan State Fan of the first degree! He is already missed by those who know & love him. Funeral services will be held at 1PM, Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson St., Lowell, MI 49331, with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan at https://www.hom.org/donations/ or by mail, 989 Spaulding Ave SE, Ada, MI 49301.

  1. So sorry to hear about Mr. Mac. I have many fond memories of spending time at his home in Lowell with Dan and the rest of the family. May good memories of Mac give you all peace and comfort at this time. He was a good man!
