Edmund Thomas Shea – Devoted husband, father, brother and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a brief battle with cancer on May 3, 2014 at the age of 79. Ed was born in Washington, DC on Aug. 20, 1934. He attended St. John’s College High School, graduated from Georgetown University, MBA from University of Detroit. He was a CPA at Ford Motor Company and Ernst & Ernst and was an active Realtor in Grand Rapids since 1972. He owned and operated Shea Realty Company for 20 years and served as the Director of Grand Rapids Association of Realtors. Ed was a board member of numerous civic and charitable organizations including; Treasurer of Jaycee’s, President of Central Volunteer Assoc, Founder of Heritage Hill Assoc, member of Grand Rapids Rotary Club, Grand Rapids Opera Board. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Marjorie and Edmund Shea, Patricia and Dan Duffy, brother and sister-in-law William and Eileen Shea, and his dear friend and sister-in-law Irene Duffy. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years Patricia Duffy Shea, his four lovely daughters Patricia Weibell (Tom), Mary Eileen Hart (Kyle), Diane Hunter (Bradley), Nancy Patrickus (Shaun), His four brothers James, Robert, Patrick and John and his loving sister Josephine Kendall (Harry). Sisters-in-law Mary Diane Duffy, Judy Sundermann (Paul) Genvieve Duffy Sams (Rick) and brother-in-law Daniel Duffy (Charrie). He was the proud grandfather to 9 grandchildren (Henry & Maeve Hart, Gordon & Shea Hunter, Thomas & Lars Weibell, Eve, Grace & Benjamin Patrickus) loving uncle and dear friend to many. He will be remembered by all for his genuine kindness and missed by so many.
Visitation held on Wednesday, May 7 at O’Brien Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids, from 3 pm – 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 8 at 11 am at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 750 Gladstone Dr SE, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to a Charity of One’s Choice.
