Age 84 of Grand Rapids died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents George Hanis and Anna (Fekette) and eight siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Judie, and three sons, Ed (Beverly) of Lansing, MI and their children Annie, Nathan, and Michelle and one great grandchild Mya, Mark (Jennifer) of Allen, Tx and their children Trey and Sarah, Chad (Laura) of Grand Rapids, MI and their children Megan and Katie; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was born in Muskegon Heights, MI on March 4, 1930. He worked several jobs before starting a career with Meijer Inc. where he retired after 26 years. He was a hardworking man who valued family above all else. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and loved the game of golf. He touched countless lives and will be missed by all that knew and loved him. Ed’s family would like to thank Laurel Mercer and Steve Johnson of Faith Hospice for their kindness and care given to Ed and compassion for the family. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday 11:00 a.m. at St. Robert of Newminster Church, 6477 Ada Dr. S.E., Ada, MI 49301. Rev. Leonard Sudlik presiding. Visitation Friday 5-8:00 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 5:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids.
