Edward Joseph Mead, age 97 of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, including Rita Geraldine “Jerrie” Friar, special friend Yvonne Wood. He is survived by his children, Judith Maxim (James Dietrich), Susan (Kenneth) Westgate; former wife, Emily Mead; grandchildren, Catherine (Bryce) Rosche, Daniel (Sheri) Maxim, Nicholas Hydorn, Cindy (Ed) Carroll and family; many nieces and nephews. 1934 graduate and long time supporter of Catholic Central. He was devoted to his family and was known for his volunteer work in the community and his passion for Notre Dame. His legacy includes many fond memories of his years at Catholic Central High School, refereeing basketball, volunteering with the sheriff’s office, and love of golf. The family would like to thank Elmcroft Senior Living and Faith Hospice for their wonderful care to our Dad and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 224 Carrier N.E. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. at the O’Brien-Eggeeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE.
