Eileen “Marty” McCarthy Davidson –
Born March 11, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to John F. and Margaret Linda (Gavin) McCarthy passed away at home on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Married May 15, 1971 to Clifton C. Davidson who gave her life’s beloved gifts: her two children, Clifton Scott (Kimberly) Davidson and Kara (Micah) Cook and their darling daughter’s Molly Joy and Jill Renee. Survived by two brothers, John F. McCarthy Jr. (Trish Burke) and Kevin M. (Lynette) McCarthy both of Texas. Brother-in-law Dr. J. Narl Davidson (Dr. Edi Guyton) of Atlanta, GA and brother-in-law Leslie J. Davidson of Jackson Hole, WY. Best Friends Kathleen I. Smith and Valerie McLaughlin. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Tessa Grace Cook, her parents, and her in-laws J. Narl and Eugenia Davidson. Marty was born and raised in Dallas, TX where she graduated from Ursuline Academy. She earned her English degree and teaching credentials from Texas Tech University where she also met her beloved husband, Clif. Clif and Marty moved to East Grand Rapids in 1979 where they settled down and raised their family. Marty joined the League of Women Voters and the Junior League. She represented the school district of East Grand Rapids and became a special education advocated for parents and students. When her children were young, Marty worked with Clif in Windmill Communications. She also worked as Assistant Director for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council. Later in life she had a successful career in insurance sales with the Foremost Insurance Company, G.H.A. Insurance, and Global Marine Insurance. Both Marty and Clif were active in their church, St. Stephens of East Grand Rapids. Faith, family and friends were the most important things to Marty. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be Friday 6-8:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 750 Gladstone Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
