Elizabeth Kay Ohlman (Lizzy), age 59, earned her angel wings on the morning of August 20 after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
Lizzy was preceded in death by her parents James and Phyllis Shepard, mother-in-law Mary Ohlman and beloved grandparents. She leaves behind Aaron, her loving husband of over 33 years, their wonderful, loving son Evan, father-in-law Vern, devoted sister Michelle (Eric), nephew Lane Douglas, and lovely brother David (PJ).
She is survived also by a large extended/blended family consisting of aunts, uncles, cousins, brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews. Lastly, there remains a considerable group of many, many friends whose lives she touched throughout her precious life.
Lizzy took pride in her home and beautiful garden. She loved camping, kayaking, swimming, and beach combing for seashells while vacationing (usually in Florida).
She loved socializing often with her many friends and family. Lizzy was the quintessential hostess. Her organized gatherings were focused solely on her guests having a good time and enjoying themselves.
Lizzy loved and had an immense appreciation for all music. Music was an integral part of her everyday existence.
Lizzy was a bright light to everyone she came in contact with. Peace and caring permeated Lizzy. She simply wanted to brighten lives and she succeeded. She loved her son fiercely; she loved us all fiercely. Lizzy will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m on Friday, August 26, 2022, and from 10:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m on Saturday, August 27, 2022, followed by a service officiated by Reverend Mark Kranenberg at O’Brien Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
