CAREY F. Jerome Jerry Carey aged 81 of Grand Rapids died June 5 2009 in Palm Beach Garden Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph F. and Frances H. (Horan) Carey; brother Joseph T. Carey and sister Eleanor C. Bowen. He is survived by his brother William P. Carey of Grand Rapids and several nieces and nephews. Born in St. Paul Minnesota raised in Grand Rapids. A graduate in 1945 from Catholic Central High School. Jerry attended MSU under the V-12 Military Enlistee Program and while there won the 155 lb. weight class All College Wrestling Championship. He was the National Sales Director of Biddle Purchasing Co. in New York City for several years from which he retired. Jerry was a member of the American Legion the Grand Rapids Board of Realtors and AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assoc.). He was a sports fan of the Detroit Tigers Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets. Jerry was an avid hunter and traveled extensively both domestically as well as abroad. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. SE Rev. James A. Chelich presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the OBrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd. SE. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be to the Veterans Association of ones choice.
