Frederick “Ted” Dean VanAntwerp, age 81 of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19, 2013 in Grand Rapids. He was born and lived his whole life in Grand Rapids. Ted was the son of the late Frederick and Irma (Byrnes) VanAntwerp. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rita (Gabert) VanAntwerp; children, Theodore “Ted”, Richard (Barbara) VanAntwerp; sister, Erna Patterson; four sisters-in-law including the late Judy (Gabert) Vandervate; two brothers-in-law; six nephews, including the late Stephen (wife, Susan) Jerkatis and the late Patrick Patterson; three nieces and many good friends and extended family. Ted graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1950. He retired from Model Coverall Service, Inc. as Sales Manager. After his retirement, Ted and his family owned the Embassy Restaurant in Saugatuck, Michigan for 21 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elk’s Lodge in Holland, Michigan. He was friendly and full of life, always with a good story to tell. Ted loved his family and travel. Visitation will be Monday, April 22 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM with a rosary at 6:30 PM at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE and Tuesday from 10-11 AM at church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 23, 11:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, Rev. Thomas Page, presiding. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church, 1120 Four Mile Rd. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49525.
