Our beloved mother and nana, Gayle Gooslin, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the age of 85. She was welcomed home by her loving husband, Doug; daughter, Lynn; and son, Jerry.

Her love for her children, granddaughters and great-grandchildren were foundational in her life. Traveling, cooking, entertaining, golfing, water skiing, boating, reading and playing games kept her busy with her circle of family and friends. Her favorite time of year was Christmas so she could bake cookies and banana rolls with her granddaughters. Those who knew her know she had a thing for chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. She would stop at nothing for a plateful of dessert and also a good sale. You could find her at Burger Night on Thursday’s at Blythefield Country Club sipping champagne while reminiscing and planning her next venture.

She was born in Lansing and a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. After raising her children, she worked as an advisor for MSU for several years and retiring as a bookkeeper for Local UAW 602. Immediately following her retirement she relocated from Lansing to Grand Rapids to be closer to her daughter and granddaughters. During that time she embraced her new community and served on the board of her HOA and Northview Senior Citizens. This became a great source of joy and adventure for her. It’s where she met her Wild Wednesday Women and traveled locally and abroad.

Anyone who knew Gayle was struck with her grace and sense of style. She had an ability to always find the good in people and any situation. Nana would gently show us by example to have faith in people and believe the best. We would leave her presence with renewed joy and a positive mindset. Her value of using “manners” with a push to grow in character will be important for the next generation to remember. We rejoice knowing that we can strive to keep these standards. She leaves a beautiful legacy of superb class, endless kindness and complete forgiveness, unwavering humor and undaunted courage.

Her greatest accomplishments in her life are the very souls she left on this good earth. God used her for so much good throughout the years in our family and community. She now has her reward.

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will uphold you with My righteous hand.” Isaiah 41:10

She was preceded in death by son, Gerald Lee Beckwith (Brid) of Asheville NC; daughter, Lynn Ann Judge; and husband, Douglas Gooslin of Lansing MI. She is survived by daughters, Julie Ann Henrickson (Dan) of Grand Rapids, Jodie Willard (Bruce) of Avon Colorado; granddaughters, Ashlie Ann Kuiper (Matthew) of Jamestown MI, Alexia Michelle Lee (Nick) of Zeeland MI, Savanna Brown of San Francisco CA, Sierra Willard of London England, Olivia Henrickson of Grand Rapids, Brittany Henrickson of Grand Rapids; great-granddaughters, Bristol Lee and Brooklyn Lee of Zeeland, MI; sister, Jan Collins (Tom) of Mason, MI; nephews, Steve Lewsader (Camellia) of Portage MI and children, Chelsea Lewsader, Jacob Lewsader, Devyn Teague, Walter Lewsader, and Jeff Lewsader (Angela) of Mint Hill NC and children, Mietta, Warren, Evalia and Magnus Lewsader; special friend, Judy Schmitt her sister from another mother of Grand Rapids; and special pets, Reagan, Jayce and Blu.
