George W. Burton, age 88, of Jenison, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020. He was preceded in death by daughter, Shawne Burton; brothers, Kenneth Burton, Randall Burton, and Willard Burton; and sister, Wilma Runyon. George is survived by Darolyn, his wife of 63 years; children, Kitty (Robert Skarjune) Scheffers, Lisa (Dwayne) Byxbe; brother, Glenn (Imogene) Burton; sister, Annette (John) Brown; grandchildren, Leah (Matt) Smith, Nathan (Lindsay) Scheffers, Dwayne (Jennifer) Byxbe Jr., Tara (Brian) Renbarger, and Wade (Rachel) Byxbe; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. George was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Strategic Air Command unit. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, Michigan 49331. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 402 Amity Street, Lowell, Michigan 49331, with Rev. Aaron Ferris presiding, with one hour of visitation prior to Mass. Social distancing and masks will be required. Services will be livestreamed on the Roth-Gerst Facebook page. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell, Michigan. Memorial contributions in George’s honor may be directed to a charity of choice.
