LCDR George L. Van Belkum, USCG, Ret, age 71, loved and served JESUS CHRIST on earth and passed away to be with his Savior on March 6, 2013, leaving his surviving wife of 50 years, Maryellen (nee Post) and children Andrew George and Dr. Kathleen L. Van Belkum, M.D. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: Nick & Delores Van Belkum, Roger & Sue Van Belkum, Jerry Van Belkum, Ariel & Gary Hallock, Shelly & Ron VanderMeer, and those special ones who knew him as Papa George and several Nephews & Nieces. He was proceeded in death by his parents: Garret & Ariel Van Belkum of Grand Rapids. He was dedicated to his family and served his country faithfully as an Air & Sea Rescue Pilot in United States Coast Guard, retired after 24 years. He then took up a second career in electronics/maintenance at Holland American Wafer Co, and retired again in 2004. He had a servant’s heart, loved the challenge of fixing anything & everything and absolutely lived by the motto, “Golf until your hands bleed!” He knew he was very much loved by JESUS, his family & many friends. Funeral services will be Monday 12:00 Noon at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Rev. Edward Kurdziel, officiating. Visitation Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Van Belkum Family through the Pure Heart Church
