Gerald Francis Burns

BURNS – Gerald Francis Burns age 62 of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease on January 30 2008. Gerry was raised on a farm in Carson City. He grew up with a very loving family; he was one of 11 children. Gerry graduated from Aquinas College in 1967 with a degree in accounting. He went on to receive a law degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. He then practiced as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and an attorney for over 25 years where he helped many people through difficult and interesting situations. Gerry was one of the founding partners of the Murphy Burns and McInerney law firm. He was a director of the economic development corporation of the city of Grand Rapids and was instrumental in the renovation of the Grand Rapids downtown area including 180 Monroe building Flannagan’s Roaring 20’s Cascade Roadhouse Churchill’s as well as many other community projects. Throughout his life Gerry loved to laugh and spend time with his family and friends. Of all his accomplishments his wife and children were his most cherished treasures. Gerry was preceded in death by his mother Florence; and his father Louis. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years Jeanne Scrivo Burns; and his son Anthony and fiance Ashley Dills; his son Patrick; and his daughter Lauren. Gerry will also be remembered by his six brothers and their wives Bill and Pam Larry and Marion Don and Maureen Joe and Pat Matt and Judy and John Burns; and his four sisters and their husbands Mary Lou and Joel Black Julie and Mike Devereaux Rosalyn and John Horrigan Luann and Bob Potts; 47 nieces and nephews; and his 20 grand-nieces and nephews. Additionally his mother and father-in-law Anthony and Beth Scrivo of St. Clair Shores; and their family Ralph and Kaye Anthony Jr., Danny and Donna Carolynn and Bernie Sloan Alison and Tom Furtaw. A Memorial Mass will be held February 2 at at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church 750 Gladstone Dr. SE. Vigil service 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd. SE. Memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J.
