Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Strahan, Sr. passed away at age 93 on Saturday, December 8, 2018, surrounded by family. Gerald was born in Grandville on September 22, 1925, to Harry and Dorothy (Higby) Strahan. He graduated from Central High School and Davenport College. He was a WWII Army veteran who served for three years as Staff Sergeant. He became an active member of St. Andrew’s and St. Stephen’s parishes where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and usher. He retired from Wolverine World Wide, Inc. as Corporate Budget Director after 23 years of service. He was active for many years with the National Association of Accountants serving as President from 1972-73. He was an avid golfer and member of Silver Lake Country Club where he got two holes-in-one. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Mary (Baranowski) Strahan; his sister, Naurine Payne; brother, William Strahan; and great-grandchild, Jacob Strahan. Gerald is survived by his children, Camille (Richard) Townshend, Gerald (Karen) Strahan Jr., Susan (Carl) Catanese and David (Jill) Strahan; six grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Townshend, Marine Staff Sergeant Jarred Strahan, Navy seaman Courtney Strahan and Paul and Sean Catanese; five great-grandchildren, William and Neil Townshend, Reilynn and Luke Strahan and Ella Sue Catanese. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, December 27 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2275 Diamond Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Visitation will be at 10:00 at the church. Lunch will follow the service. Internment will take place at a later date at Resurrection Cemetary.
