Gregory John Gietzen, age 57, of Grand Rapids, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Gietzen.  He is survived by his mother, Mildred Gietzen; sister, Heidi (Dan) Hutchins; brother, Jeffrey (Kathy) Gietzen; several nieces and nephews; and his former wife and best friend, Denise Gietzen.  Gregory enjoyed life to the fullest.  He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School where he participated in the marching band. He had a 30 year career with Meijer until his retirement. Gregory loved family gatherings, golf, auto and drag racing and his dogs. Gregg was also an avid reader and especially enjoyed Westerns. Visitation will be Sunday, January 27 from 4-6 PM with a Rosary at 5:45 PM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, and also a half hour prior to the funeral Mass at church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Gregory at 2 PM on Monday, January 28 at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr SE, Ada, MI 49301. Rev. Colin Mulhall presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gregory’s name may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan, 3077 Wilson Dr SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534.

    Our hearts go out to all of you. When you lose someone suddenly it is inconsolable. Time and prayers will help so much. God has a purpose for all of us and Greg must have fulfilled his. It is so hard to figure why at such a young age but only God knows why!!! All of our prayers and thoughts are with you !!!
