Harley D. Dryer, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Clarksville on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Harley was born February 21, 1934 in Hanover, Michigan to Allen J. and M. Evelyn Dryer. He honorably served in the US Navy from 1952-1960. He was very proud to serve on the USS Macon 132. On June 11, 1955, Harley married his dearly beloved wife, Marilyn. After milking cows for many years, Harley worked for Snyder Farm Supply. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and collecting toy tractors. In his later years, Harley could often be found driving around in his mule with his ever faithful companion, Woody. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Marilyn, he is survived by his children David (Julie) Dryer of Reading, MI, Gary (Chris) Dryer of Portland, MI, Dennis (Paula) Dryer of Portland, MI, Bonnie Canfield of Clarksville, MI and Lee (Kim) Dryer of Clarksville, MI; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters and 1 brother; 2 sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Harley was predeceased by his parents; 1 sister and 6 brothers. The family would like to thank Harley’s sister, Helen Smith. A funeral service will be Saturday, January 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Alto. Rev. Bryan Maley officiating. Interment Bowne Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 2-4:00 p.m., 6-8:00 p.m. at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, MI and will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Grace Brethren Church, 13700 84th St., Alto, MI or Spectrum Health Hospice, 4500 Breton, Grand Rapids, MI 49508.
