Howard E. Hobbs, age 89, of Alto, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones, Friday, January 21, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie & Leona; siblings, Elaine, Charles, Eleanor, Eloise, Evelyn. Survived by his wife of 60 years Helen M. Hobbs; children, Christine (Jeff) Sanches, Jay Hobbs, Carolyn (Brent) Hobbs Kreiger; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister, Estelle (Harvey) Stark. Howard owned and operated service stations throughout his life. He spent the majority of his career operating Cascade Hills Shell in Grand Rapids, MI. An avid outdoorsman, Howard spent time hunting in Montana, fishing in Canada, and hunted locally with beagles most of his life. Howard enjoyed playing both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball for many years, playing the position of pitcher. Howard and Helen enjoyed traveling the country in their 5th wheel, golfing, bowling, and playing Euchre with friends. Howard served our country as an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a 53 year member of the American Legion Post 528. Howard was active in the Alto Lions Club civic organization and a beloved member of the surrounding community. Interment with Military Honors, 1 PM, May 4, 2022, at Merriman Cemetery, Alto, followed by a gathering of family and friends at Alto American Legion to celebrate Howard’s life.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Howard’s name to the American Legion Charities at mylegion.org.

    I have many of memories of both of are families hanging out together when we where younger,,,
