Imogene L. Peters, age 94 of Lowell, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Strauss; daughter, Cheryl Murphy; granddaughters, Caryn Strauss and Nicole Murphy. Imogene is survived by her daughter, Lynn Schroeder; six grandchildren, Lauri (Jake) Smit, Sean Strauss, Jennifer (Peg) Murphy, Michelle (Nolan) Brightman, Lisa (Mark) Strouse, Lyndsey Schroeder; eleven great-grandchildren, Austin, Brandon, Dylan and Makenna Smit, Jordyn, Jaelyn and Gavin Strauss, Rylee and Payten Brightman, Braeden and Andrew Strouse; sister, Lois Filkins; daughter-in-law, Mary Strauss; special kids, Ryan, Nicole and Brinley Reibel, and Kallie and Katie Holzhueter; friends, Mary Atchison Markle, and Deb & Roger Reed. Imogene Lou VanGilder Peters was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, neighbor, grandmother and great grandmother. She had many people she took under her wing and nurtured. Most of all, she loved babies and her role as Gramma Gou. Though she was a child and adult of meager means, you would have never known this when she fed you. Her generosity was boundless, when hosting or co-hosting a gathering for a holiday or other events, there was always enough food for everyone expected to attend and if they brought along others, she planned for that. Everyone went home well fed and usually with a dish for later. This woman was a “Me Too” survivor during and from the 1930s, when there was none. God bless her for not only surviving, but she rose above and wanted to comfort others in need. We loved her, will miss her and she will be in our hearts for eternity. Visitation will be Sunday, August 4th, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, MI 49331. Interment August 6th at Ada Township Cemetery, 6340 Grand River Drive SE, Ada, MI 49301 at 10:00 AM.
