Iva Muriel Nicola, age 94 of Ada, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerritt; brothers Ray, Fay and Clyde Scott. She is survived by her children Rae (Alvin) Currie, Barry Nicola; granddaughters Angela Currie (Matt Schwartzwalder), Courtney (Louis) Simmons, Beverly Currie; great granddaughters Harper, Clarke and Tatum Simmons. Iva was a teacher for 33 years; 7 years in Antrim County and 26 years for the Grand Rapids Public Schools at Burr Oak. During her working years she was Circle Leader of Burton Baptist, and Cub Scout Den Mother. After retiring Iva was president of Christian Women United, Grand Rapids Unit, Love Gift Chair for American Baptist Women, Rock and Read program, volunteer with Butterworth Hospital, secretary of West Area American Baptist Women, friendship chair of KARSP Teacher’s Union, American Baptist Women’s President. Visitation will be Monday 6-8:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at Burton Baptist Church, 2010 Plymouth Ave. S.E., Grand Rapids. Rev. Jim Ankerberg officiating. Private interment Lakeview Cemetery in Eastport, MI.
