MONK – On June 29 2010 Jack L. Monk beloved husband of Florence (nee Walsh), devoted father of Barbara (Frank) Banta of Boulder Colorado and William Monk of Glen Arm Maryland passed away. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jack was born in Grand Rapids attended St. Andrews grade school and Catholic Central High School graduating in 1936. He played varsity basketball in his junior and senior years. After high school he went on to Catholic Junior College. Jack served in the U.S. Army from July 1941 until April of 1946. He was drafted advanced to officers school and obtained the rank of Captain of Battery B of the 363rd Battalion of the 96th Division of the U.S. Army serving in the Philippines and Okinawa. Jack was a food broker for over 40 years initially with L.E. Walsh Food Brokers. He founded Northland Food Brokers and served as president. The game of golf was a love of Jacks. He was a member of Green Ridge and Egypt Valley Country Clubs for over 56 years. Jack was the president of Green Ridge (1963-64) and served on the board for several years. Jack was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Parish serving on many committees. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered 10 AM at St. Stephen Church 750 Gladstone SE. Visitation 6-8 PM at the OBrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd. SE. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to St. Stephen Church or the Egypt Valley Academic Scholarship Fund.
