WOOD – James D.Wood Woody Papa age 74 of Lowell Michigan passed away on June 25 2010 at one of his most favorite places the golf course. Jim was a kind loving and always cheerful man who loved all people and showed it every time he spoke with someone. His family was important and treasured by him. He attended every event of his children and grandchildren over many years. He loved to dote on his wife Ruthie of 52 years and she was the love of his life. Jim started selling Rainbow vacuums for Rexair as a young man and soon built his own business called Woodys Vacuum Sales and Service which spanned over half a century and soon expanded to include Woodys Off the Truck Golf Sales. He also worked for Steelcase Inc. before retiring after 32 years. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife Ruth; children Angie (Troy) Sloan Candi (Jeff) Bowne; three grandchildren Nathan Sloan Bryant Sloan-Johnson Skylar Bowne; brothers William (Nancy) Wood Ronald (Jane) Wood; sisters Winnie Onan Margaret Kehrer; sisters-in-law Bea (Henry) Hoekstra Esther Newell Lorraine Meeuwsen Dorlores Meeuwsen; several nieces and nephews; step brothers Howard (Barb) Briggs Rick (Carol) Briggs Pat (Bernard) Hendricks Vicki Kropf Ann (Don) Schneider; many special friends who know him as Woody and all his adopted grandchildren who loved him and fondly referred to him as Papa. He was preceded in death by his parents George Wood and Dorothy Wood (Briggs); step-father Harry Briggs; sister Ruth Sisson; brothers-in-law Hugh Onan Dick Sisson Charles Kehrer Russell Meeuwsen Robert Meeuwsen Wayne Meeuwsen Clyde Newell. Funeral service will be June 29 2010 at First Congregational Church of Lowell 865 Lincoln Lake SE with Rev. Chris Schwab officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM and from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Roth-Gerst Funeral Home 305 N Hudson Lowell. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Woody LHS Sports Memorial Fund.
