James Diehl McMahon, age 84 of Bonita Springs, FL formerly of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara; children Linda (James) Steavpack, Scott (Annette Nicholson) McMahon, Carol (Charles) Shea, Julia (Joe Stanson) McMahon; grandchildren Jimmy (Audrey Vogel) McMahon and Sean McMahon, Andrew and Molly Steavpack, Charlotte, Lila and Graham Shea; and brother-in-law Richard Best. Jim met his wife Barbara at MSU, where they both graduated. Jim was proud to have served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed time spent in Turkey where he felt fortunate to visit many historical sites. He worked at IBM as a programmer and taught English for many years at Rogers High School and Lee High School where he also was able to incorporate his love for mythology in his courses. Following retirement he became involved in photography where he captured weddings, family, class and team photos. He participated in several productions in civic theatre, was a life master bridge player, liked a good game of chess, and his travels. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 29, 2018, at 2 PM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev.
