CARBONNEAU – James Thomas Carbonneau aged 79 of Grand Rapids passed away January 24. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Florence; his daughter Janet Carbonneau-Jones and Marty Jones; his sister Judy Traetz; and several close cousins. Cremation has taken place. Jim attended St. George High School in Racine WI until 1945 when his family moved to Grand Rapids. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946 and then Michigan State University in 1951 where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business. He joined the United States Air Force and was a graduate of USAF Pilot Training Class 53 C where he earned his pilot wings at Greenville Air Force Base in Mississippi and then transferred to Williams Air Force Base in Arizona where he flew F-86 fighter jets. After the Air Force he joined his father in the family business Carbonneau Industries. When his father retired he became President and CEO. In 1986 he sold the business and retired. Jim was a member of the American Legion The Round Table Kent County Conservation League and a Michigan State University Alumni Association Life Member. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 1025 3 Mile Road NE Rev. Michael C. Fedewa officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church Outreach Fund or the charity of your choice.
