James W Hammon, age 76, of Cascade, Michigan, peacefully passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born in Wabash, Indiana, son of Harley and Pauline Hammon. Jim had many passions in life. He was married to the love of his life, Carol, for 50 years. Jim’s biggest source of pride was his family. He is survived by loving wife Carol, sons Scott (Heather) and Steve (Sue) and five grandsons, Parker, Jared, Evan, Luke and Elliott. He loved watching all of his boys play football, baseball, basketball and golf, – chipping and putting around the yard. Jim was a graduate of Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin and was proud to serve in the Army National Guard. He started and ended his career with the Maytag Company as a Regional Sales & Marketing Manager for 30 years. Jim loved sales and loved talking for a living. His love of golf was his favorite pastime. He was affectionately known at “Big Cat” and/or “Jimmy Rules” by so many golf professionals and friends in the state. Jim was a Michigan PGA Rules Official for 20 years and a President of Forest Hills Country Club. He loved being the “Voice” of the Forest Hills Central Rangers football and basketball programs for 18 years as well as the being the president of the Sports Booster Club. Special thank you to Porter Hills Home Health Care, Emmanuel Hospice, Liz Otvos his caregiver and dedicated friend William Erickson who made every day easier. Memorial Services will be held at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 7495 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids 12 pm (Noon) on Saturday November 22nd. Visitation with the family will be the evening prior to the funeral Friday night the 21st from 6:00-8:00 pm at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.
