QUINN – Janyce Ayers Quinn age 77 died on August 21 2008 at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods after a short courageous battle with cancer. Janyce was born on May 19 1931 in Ashland Pennsylvania to Marie and John Ayers and she grew up in the small town of Holley New York. She attended and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1953 where she met and later married Robert Quinn Jr. After living for a short time in Washington DC the two moved to Grand Rapids where they made their life for over 50 years. She was an elementary school teacher for 35 years retiring from the Grand Rapids Public Schools. However she continued her lifelong passion for education throughout retirement by supervising student teachers at Aquinas College. Her energy and passion for life amazed all those who knew her. Janyce was involved in many volunteer activities most recently the Spectrum Foundation Board and informal groups such as the Bissell Guild The Good Grief Group her Penn Club Swim Group two golf leagues and her Alpha Xi Delta Sorority sisters. She enjoyed reading entertaining cooking crossword puzzles knitting golfing and most of all spending time with her family and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert who passed away this past January. She is survived by her son Shawn (Gail); her daughters Eileen (Gary Freeman) and Martha (Thomas Morren); her grandchildren Kristin and Ryan Quinn Erin and Kyle Freeman and Kailey Alison and Tara Morren. She also leaves one sister Mary Anne (Jon) Hill and was predeceased by her brother Robert Ennis. Janyce also leaves three brothers-in-law Patrick (Rita) Quinn Thomas (Gerry) Quinn and Michael (Rose) Quinn; three sisters-in-law Kathleen Quinn Maureen Slade (Charles Bryant), and Noreen (Paul) Napierela; and many nieces nephews cousins and special friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Paul the Apostle Church 2750 Burton SE Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Vigil service 8:00 p.m. Visitation 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd., SE. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Faith Hospice.
