HEMPSTEAD – Jill G. Hempstead age 65 of Cascade passed away March 17 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack & Carolyn Griffendorf. She is survived by her husband Joe Hempstead; daughter Kim Hempstead of Boulder CO; son Greg (Sarah) of Indianapolis IN; granddaughters Norah and Caitlyn Hempstead; sisters-in-law Sally Hempstead and Mary Hempstead of Elkhart IN. A Michigan State graduate Jill taught in the Trenton Michigan schools and served as a teachers aide in Wyoming Public Schools for several years. She was a wonderful mother to her two children and a homemaker through their formative years. After moving to East Grand Rapids she was active in the PTA and various school related committees and projects forming friendships that have endured and grown over the years. Once an empty nester she worked as a receptionist at the Spectrum Health Child Development Centers Lake Drive location again forming many lasting friendships. She will be remembered for her warm smile intelligence excellent taste in food great cooking and loving attention to her family.Funeral services will be 2:00 PM at the Frederik Meijer Gardens 1000 E. Beltline NE. Visitation Saturday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the OBrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd SE. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of Ones Choice.
