Joanne M. (Leidheiser) Merkel, age 90 of Traverse City, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord after suffering with dementia the last few years of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bob Merkel. She is survived by her children, Alison (Brian) Arnson of Grand Rapids, Brian (Anne) Merkel of Saline, Patricia Merkel of Traverse City, Kevin Merkel of Traverse City; grandsons, Brandon and Jordan Arnson, Brayden Merkel. Joanne enjoyed going to Blythefield Country Club, The Elks, and her outings with the Red Hats. She also loved to spend time with her dog, Jack. Private family services will be held.
