John Douglas MacDonald passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Thursday, July 30, 2020. His is survived by his children; Katie (Michael) Cavanagh, Patty (Patrick) Godfrey, Annmarie MacDonald, Molly (Jeremy) Jones, Maureen (Dan) Rousseve and Scottie MacDonald; his grandchildren; Brennan (Lauren), Shea, Keegan, McKenna, Lou-Lou, Lily, Lottie; his step-grandchildren; Serena, Ashley, Andrew and David; great grandchild, Rowan. A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place on August 28th.  John loved to have all his children home and under one roof. He was famous for “making enough food to feed an army”! He also enjoyed playing card games and was hard to beat! John served in the US Airforce from 1961 to 1964, where he intercepted and translated Morse code. He then attended Aquinas College where he met his bride and the love of his life, Catherine. For many years, he taught his favorite grades, “6th, 7th and 8th” at St. Stephen Catholic School where he also served as Principal. Later, John worked at St. Jude Catholic Church in the religious education department. He started his own business teaching problem solving to businesses. For the last 17 years of his life, he completed his most important work, caring for his wife until she passed away in October of 2019. John was a faithful Catholic and strong believer in God’s love and grace. He will be remembered for his love for singing loudly in church and his beautiful vocal range.
