John J. Gratz, age 91, of Lowell, passed away January 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his brother, Ben. John is survived by his children, Evelyn Nowakowski, Marjorie (Mike) Mayhew, and James Gratz; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gratz; grandchildren, Lisa (John) Haberman, Kyle Mayhew, Drew (Claire Fisher) Mayhew, Sarah Mayhew, and Matthew Mayhew; and great grandchild, Channing Haberman. John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. John enjoyed country and polka music and loved to play his accordion. He spent a lot of time farming and riding his tractor. In his later years, John was entertained by looking at maps due to his love of travel. Visitation with the family will be held at 10 AM on Monday, January 18, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 402 Amity St. Lowell, MI 4933, Mass will follow starting at 11 AM with Rev. Aaron Ferris presiding. Social distancing and masks will be required. Mass will be livestreamed on the Roth-Gerst Facebook page. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
