John Peter Miller, age 80 of Cascade, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Bessie Miller. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Jacquelynn (Donner) Miller; children, John Jr. (Linda) of Kalamazoo, Jennifer Miller (Juan Martinez) of Des Plaines, IL, Benjamin (Christi) of Hudsonville, Patrick of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Max, Frank and Kate Martinez, Grace, Kirsten, and Elise Miller, Rachel Cross of Kalamazoo; brother, Richard (Jeannine) of Grand Rapids. John graduated from Benton Harbor High School and Central Michigan University where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees. Later attending University of Illinois on a National Science Foundation Scholarship and received his Masters in Mathematics. He taught mathematics for two years in Mayville and a year in Newaygo before joining the teaching staff at Forest Hills Central, where he taught high school mathematics for 33 years. Following retirement, John spent many years working on family genealogy tracing some parts of the family back to 1650. He also enjoyed Sudoku and playing cribbage. Memorial service will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Rev. Leonard Sudlik presiding. The family will meet friends and relatives Friday 6-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
