Jorge Fuentes Rivas

Jorge, age 77, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Angela Rivas;  Jorge is survived by his wife of  22 years, Ann Lennon; his daughters,  Elizabeth (Tim) Downey, Angela Rivas (Brent Klug), Amanda Rivas (Ricardo Arias); his grandchildren Cassie Downey, Ashley Downey, Lexi Rivas, Samantha Rivas, John Rivas and Cameron Favreau; one brother and four sisters in Mexico, Alberto Rivas, Emelia, Margareta, Alicia and Teresa; brother and sister in laws Michael Lennon, Mary and Roy  Heiniger, Daniel and Jane Lennon and Roberta and Mark Landauer nephews and their families, Hector  (Lupe) Rivas and their children, Brian and Tony, Steven (Betsy) Aretz and their children, Matt and Katherine Lennon and Rory Landauer.  Jorge worked for 30 years for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, retiring in 2002 due to illness.  He was President of the Mexican Cultural Political Corporation.  He chaired the Mexican Independence Day festival for several years.  He became a U.S. citizen in June 1976.  Jorge achieved a Masters Degree in Education from Grand Valley State University in 1979.  The family deeply appreciates all the caregivers at Addington Place East Paris.  Also the wonderful team from Kindred Hospice, his nurse Kim Hill was very special to him and his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 18 at 11 AM at St. Paul the Apostle, 2750 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, Fr. Peter Damian presiding and Fr. Steve Cron concelebrant.  Visitation one hour prior to mass.   Family will greet friends and relatives on Sunday, November 17, from 3-5 PM at O’Brien Eggebeen Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids with a prayer service at 4:30 PM.   Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  Memorial Contributions can be made in Jorge’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter, West Michigan Office, 4081 Cascade Rd SE Suite 400, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

  1. My long time friend and colleague has , at long last, found piece. He worked for the Department of Civil Rights for 30 years a good half of that time we worked side by side in the Grand Rapids office. We shared many stories. He was the consummate professional.
