Josephine Kian, of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, November 23, at age 94.
Josephine was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 29, 1926, and was a long-time resident of Grand Rapids.
She was a member of the Parent-Teachers Assoc., and Fountain Street Church, where she worked in the Sunday school program and with various church guilds. In addition, she was a volunteer with the Grand Rapids YWCA.
She and the family moved to the Detroit area in 1970 where she worked for the J.L. Hudson Co. Department Store and later for the Detroit Free Press’s promotion department. She was an avid cook and gardener and traveled extensively, including trips to the UK, Italy, Russia, and China. She and her husband retired back to Grand Rapids in 1989.
Josephine is survived by her son Robert, of Farmington Hills, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Leonard, also of Grand Rapids.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
