ATCHISON – Katherine (Schiffler) Atchison 1918-2008 of Ada our loving mother left this earthly world and is resting in the arms of her Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband Don and son-in-law Art Markle. Katherine was a joy and inspiration to her 10 children 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Mom graduated from Catholic Central in 1936 went on to Aquinas College becoming one of the first women there to study pre-med. Later she would earn her masters for teaching at MSU. Katherine taught 1st grade in the Northview School system for many years. Mom had a special place in her heart for animals especially her dog and companion PDQ. She also loved to traveland be your guide through her countless photo albums encompassing Alaska to China. Katherine was a long time member of St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church where she was passionately devoted to her Morning Bible Study the Rosettes Right to Life of Michigan and a group that joined in prayer with the elderly at Whispering Woods Home for many years. Mom leaves behind an extensive family who will always love and miss her. Here to carry on her grace are her children: Donna (Jack) Harmon Joe (Marie) Atchison Fran (Fred) Gilhoran Pat Glass Barb (Doc) Vincent Helen (Al) Dykstra Mike (MaryLou) Atchison Mary Markle D.J. (Anita) Atchison and Betsy (Gary) Rash. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Robert of Newminster Church 6477 Ada Dr. SE Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider presiding. Visitation will take place from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at the OBrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd. SE. Rosary will be recited 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Right to Life of Michigan.
