Kevin Richard Friar, age 18 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully Monday, April 2, 2018 while in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Beloved son of DeAnne (Short) and Mike Friar; feisty, wonderful brother to Colleen and Kyle; loving grandson to Pete and Carol Friar and Diane Friar; hilarious nephew, great-nephew and cousin to many; also loyal master to his dog Comet. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Peggy and Jerry Short; aunt Sue Critchfield; uncle Big (Jim Blok), uncle Dick Friar; and cousin Crystal Thomson-Short. Kevin was a senior at Forest Hills Central High School and worked at Kingsland Ace Hardware in Cascade. In spite of his Duchenne muscular dystrophy he was a determined young man and an inspiration to many. Kevin was a smart, sharp witted teenage boy who loved steak dinners, building things and inappropriate jokes. He will be deeply missed. Visitations will be Wednesday, April 11, 5-8:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 12, 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m., with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 13, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 1253 52nd St. S.E., Kentwood, MI 49508. Rev. Peter Vu, Rev. Louis Anderson and Rev. Leonard Sudlik concelebrants. Interment Cascade Cemetery.
