Lucita (Santos) Manalang, known to her friends as Lucy, of Ada, MI (formerly of Ann Arbor, MI), age 82, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 6, 2020.  She was born on July 24, 1938 in the Philippines to Pablo Santos (father) and Lucila Garcia (mother).  Lucy attended The Philippine Women’s University in Manila Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Social Work on October 19, 1962.  Using this degree, she worked as a Medical Social Worker at the Quirino Labor Hospital in Quezon City, Philippines.  Lucy and Jorge Coronel Manalang were married on December 29, 1966 in Quezon City, Philippines (53 year marriage) and then later immigrated to the United States in 1969.  She became a Naturalized United States Citizen on November 27, 1974.  Her son Joel Manalang and daughter Lennie May Manalang Paul were born in Auburn, Washington.  While raising her children, Lucy studied Electrical and Industrial Design courses at Washtenaw Community College and then she worked as a Senior Electrical Drafter for Bechtel Power Corporation in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Lucy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking Filipino food, playing games, doing puzzles, and bowling with her husband Jorge.  She will be missed by her husband Jorge; children, Joel & Samantha Manalang and  Lennie & Mark Paul; granddaughters, Isabella and Amelia Paul; her brothers, Bobbie & Ray Start; her many nieces & nephews; family, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo Santos (father) and Lucila Garcia (mother), and her brothers Nathanael Santos and Romey Start.  A Mass of Christian Burial in Lucy’s honor will be on Friday, November 13, 2020 12:00 Noon at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI, 49301. Rev. Leonard Sudlik, presiding.  Burial Services at Ada Cemetery (located west of the corner of Fulton Street SE (M-21) and Grand River Drive) will immediately follow the mass.  Friends and family may attend a visitation at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church from 11:00 AM until the time of service.  COVID requirements apply relative to wearing masks, social distancing, and adhering to state mandated limitations on the size of gatherings.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church at https://www.strobertchurch.org/make-a-donation/.

  1. Much prayers, love and light to Uncle Jorge, and my cousins Kuya Joel and Lennie. May Tita Cita Rest in Eternal Peace and Perpetual Light shine upon her. She has been reunited with the Lord, her parents Lolo and Lola and her brothers My Dad and Uncle Romy.
