Marilyn Mehney Law, age 82, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, surrounded by family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Gayle and Catherine Mehney.  Marilyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Shelby Law; children, Jeffrey Shelby Law, Catherine Law Wilkerson and James Gayle (Helen) Law; grandchildren, Shelby Marine Law and  Sydney Jean Law; sister, Susan (Jerry) Carlton; brother, David (Linda) Mehney; and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and grew up in Grand Rapids. She graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and enjoyed attending high school reunions with her classmates for many years. She graduated from The University of Michigan with a degree in education and taught grade school in Grand Rapids. In 1960 she married Shelby Law and started a family.  They made several moves with his career, making lifelong friends wherever they went. Kansas soon became home for her new family and she made many lasting and wonderful friendships in Wichita and Hutchinson. In later years, Marilyn and Shelby enjoyed retirement in the Florida sunshine with family and friends. She played ladies team tennis well into her 70s. Marilyn was a member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and was always involved in serving her local community. She loved being a grandmother to Shelby and Sydney and was so happy to be involved in their lives. She was a compassionate substitute teacher, creative entrepreneur, avid tennis player and the most loyal friend. She loved spending time with family at Gun Lake. Every summer, Marilyn could not wait to “go to the lake” and was the most welcoming hostess to visitors. She made the best apple pie in the world, always with Gun Lake apples from her father’s trees. She loved her family, friends and pets, and will be lovingly remembered for her generosity, warmth and kindness to all. The family would like to thank Emmanuel Hospice and Marilyn’s amazing team of caregivers, especially Sharon, Shannon, Dolores and Lindsay, for the selfless and loving care they provided. Visitation will be Saturday, January 19 at 10:30 AM with the funeral service following at 11:30 AM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Rev.
