Mark Reid “Golden Boy” Kemperman, age 65 of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, February 9, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Nelda Kemperman and father-in-law, Thomas J. Pipp. He is survived by his wife Katie (Pipp) Kemperman; daughters, Brittany and Samantha Kemperman; brother, Steve (Paula) Kemperman; sister, Nancy (Tom) Sutherland; mother-in-law, Arlene Pipp; several brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs and granddog. Mark was a 1966 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School “Indians”. He gave up a basketball scholarship to serve his country in the Vietnam War, and was recognized with four medals of honor. Mark was a loving, devoted husband, father, friend, mentor, as well as, a wonderful son-in-law. He had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He was a gifted athlete, a golfer known as an A player, and an avid Michigan Fan. He had a passion for coaching basketball, which he did for over 20 years. Mark will be loved and greatly missed by everyone. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1935 Plymouth SE, Rev. Troy Nevins and Rev. Thomas J. Pipp, S.J., presiding. Visitation Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE.
