Martin G. McCarthy, age 54 of Grand Rapids, started a new journey with Jesus Christ, Monday, May 13, 2013. He will join his father, Edwin, mother, Joan, and brother, John. Martin passed with his healthy sense of humor and sharp wit intact. He loved leisurely activities such as fishing and golfing and never missed a chance to spend time with his family enjoying a home cooked meal. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in business and instilled his educational values in his children. Martin continued to devote his love and affection to his wife and three children. He always expressed how proud he was of his kids. He is survived by his wife, Sonia; son, Jon, daughter-in-law, Nicole and granddaughter, Scarlett; daughter, Alicia, soon to be son-in-law, John Krajacic; daughter, Shannon; brothers, Tom (Linda) McCarthy, Mike (Violy) McCarthy, Paul McCarthy; sisters, Karen (Paul) Borum, Mary Anne (Jim) Veldheer; several nieces and nephews; parents-in-law, Tom (Marita) Jasinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday 11:00 a.m. Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1935 Plymouth Avenue S.E. Rev. Troy Nevins presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road S.E.
