Mary Grace (MG) Keller, 88, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Ada, MI, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 peacefully in her sleep. She was born in Detroit, MI, on March 27, 1925, to the late Helen and Edwin Cook. Mary Grace married the late James L. Cummins in 1945, and they had 60 years of marriage together. In 2006, she married Lee Keller, a longtime friend. MG was a beloved member of the community and throughout her years she advocated for children. She tirelessly worked in education, teaching for nearly 35 years, many at Breton Downs in East Grand Rapids, MI and at Collins Elementary School in Ada, MI. She volunteered at St. Mary’s hospital, and she was active throughout her lifetime in tennis and bridge. Mary Grace is survived by two children; Richard E. Cummins, of Lowell, MI; and Barb Norgaard Byrns, of Traverse City, MI. Her beloved son, Michael J Cummins, passed before her on July 21, 1990; She is survived by sisters, Maris Deacon, Loretta Berg; brothers, Tom Cook and Jack Cook. Her sister, Donna Dolores Messing, passed before her on December 22, 2013. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Matthew A. Cummins, Evanston, IL; Katie M. Brourman, Chicago, IL; Ryan P. Cummins, L.A, CA; Skyler J. Norgaard, Evan G. Norgaard; Kate L. Norgaard, all from Traverse City, MI. Lee Keller gifted Mary Grace with 6 extended children & 20 grandchildren. The family of Mary Grace would like to personally thank St. Mary’s Hospital and Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods for the tremendous care that she received.
The Keller Family is having a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 10 at St. Robert of Newminster Church, 6477 Ada Drive, SE at 11AM, Rev. Leonard Sudlik, presiding.
The Cummins Family will be having a private family memorial at a later date.
