Mary Lou Monteath Skirvin, age 96, passed away on January 7, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Ray Skirvin. Mary Lou will be deeply missed by her 101 year old brother Edward Monteath (Paso Robles, Ca), son Rodger & daughter-in-law Anna (Raleigh, NC); daughter Ann Marie Skirvin (Stillwater, MN); granddaughters Maria, Emily, and Emma; great grand children Jackson, Jameson, and Annalyn; 5 nephews and nieces. Mary Lou will be missed by her dearest friends for 55 years Kent & Willow Fisher, Bob Gronevett & Kim Sibilsky Fisher, and Kris & Mary Fisher. Mary Lou was born in St. Louis and attended Washington University. She enlisted in the Marines in 1944 and attained the rank of Lance Corporal and was recently honored in Washington DC for her military service. Mary Lou loved to dress up for Halloween, acting, write beautiful poetry & practice yoga. She was quite the Bridge player and was a lifelong Episcopalian & Altar Guild member. She loved to write whimsical greeting cards. Mary Lou’s memorial service will be Saturday, February 1 at 10am at Porter Hills Retirement Village, 3600 E. Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, her residence for many years.
