Michael Edwin Fitzgerald, age 83, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in Hollywood, FL, surrounded by his beloved family. Michael was born in 1934 in Grand Rapids to Edwin Jas and Margaret Hazel Fitzgerald of Lowell, MI. Michael was first married to Marilyn Margot Brady who passed away unexpectedly. He would later marry Linda Maria Antonini with whom he was married to for over 46 years until her passing last year. Michael is survived by his seven children, Patrick (Lynn) Fitzgerald of Chicago, Brian (Laurie) Fitzgerald of Indianapolis, Kathleen (Mark) Cohen of Pembroke Pines, FL, Michael (Molly) Fitzgerald of Chicago, Maggie (Darren) Dawson of Central Lake, MI, Thomas (Emily) Fitzgerald of Grand Rapids and Molly (Jeff) Baker of Lowell. He was the oldest of five siblings, Anne Fitzgerald (deceased), Margaret Rice of Los Angeles, John Fitzgerald (deceased) and Kathy Priest of Grand Rapids. In his early years, he attended Aquinas College, but was most proud of his diploma from his alma mater, Campion Jesuit High School, in Prairie du Chien, WI, where he developed a lifelong passion for singing. Michael served in the US Army, later worked for Lear Siegler, the Grand Rapids Board of Education and retired from Steelcase. Michael was devoted to his family, his Catholic faith and anyone he called a friend. He was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Ancient Order of Hibernians. His compassion for others, sense of humor and personal integrity endeared him to everyone. He preferred to say “see you later” and never goodbye.  The family will be forever grateful for the superb care and warm comfort provided by his doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital West and Seasons Hospice, both located in South Florida. Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Friday, October 26, from 5-7 PM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids.  There will be a second visitation offered at 10 AM preceding the celebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM Saturday, October 27, at the Basilica of St. Adalbert, 654 Davis Ave NW, Grand Rapids.
